Event Types

The ticketing platform supports three event types to accommodate different scheduling and seating needs. This guide explains the available event types and when to use each one.

Standard Events

Standard events occur at a specific date and time, with all attendees arriving during the same timeframe.

Characteristics

  • Fixed start and end date/time
  • All attendees attend during the same period
  • Capacity is managed per ticket type
  • Suitable for concerts, conferences, performances, etc.

Setting Up a Standard Event

To create a standard event:

  1. Select "Standard" when creating a new event
  2. Enter the event name, description, and custom URL
  3. Set the event start and end date/time
  4. Add the event location
  5. After creation, create ticket types with quantities and sales dates

Time-Slotted Events

Time-slotted events allow attendees to book specific time slots. This is ideal for events that run over a longer period or repeat on a schedule.

Characteristics

  • Multiple time slots available for booking
  • Each slot has its own optional capacity limit
  • Per-slot control over which ticket types are available and their quantities
  • Supports recurring slot creation (daily, weekly, or monthly)
  • Suitable for tours, museums, classes, exhibitions, etc.

Setting Up a Time-Slotted Event

To create a time-slotted event:

  1. Select "Time-slotted" when creating a new event
  2. Enter the event name, description, and custom URL
  3. Add the event location
  4. After creation, create ticket types for the event
  5. Navigate to the Schedule page to create time slots

Creating Time Slots

Each time slot has the following settings:

  • Title: A name for the time slot
  • Start: The start date and time
  • End: The end time (same day as start)
  • Total limit: An optional overall capacity limit for the slot
  • Ticket types: Select which ticket types are available and set the quantity per type for this slot

Recurring Slots

Instead of creating slots one by one, you can generate recurring slots by enabling the "Repeats" option:

  • Frequency: Daily, weekly, or monthly
  • Interval: How often it repeats (e.g., every 2 weeks)
  • Days (weekly only): Select which days of the week
  • End condition: Either a specific end date or a number of occurrences

Seated Events

Seated events sell tickets against a venue's seat map. Buyers see the venue layout in the shop and pick specific seats or general-admission zones.

Characteristics

  • Backed by a published seat map design from your organization
  • Each seat or GA area is assigned one or more ticket types via allocations
  • Capacity is managed per element on the seat map, not on the ticket type
  • Real-time holds: every viewer sees seats become unavailable as other buyers reserve them
  • Suitable for theatres, stadiums, concerts with assigned seating, and venues that mix reserved seating with standing zones

Setting Up a Seated Event

To create a seated event:

  1. Design and publish a seat map in your organization
  2. Select "Seated" when creating a new event and pick the published seat map
  3. Enter the event name, description, custom URL, date/time, and location
  4. After creation, open the Seating page on the event and assign ticket types to seats and GA areas

Choosing the Right Event Type

  • Choose Standard if your event takes place once at a fixed time and all attendees come at the same time.
  • Choose Time-slotted if you need to spread attendees across multiple dates or times, or if your event repeats on a regular schedule.
  • Choose Seated if your venue has assigned seats, themed GA zones, or any layout where buyers should pick where they sit or stand.

The event type is selected during event creation and cannot be changed afterwards.

Next Steps

After selecting your event type, you may want to:

  1. Create your event
  2. Set up ticket types
  3. Configure time slots (for time-slotted events)
  4. Design a seat map and assign ticket types to seats (for seated events)
