Creating and Managing Promo Codes
Promo codes can help boost ticket sales, reward loyal customers, and offer special discounts. This guide explains how to
create and manage them effectively.
What Are Promo Codes?
Promo codes are discount codes that attendees enter at checkout to get a price reduction on their tickets. They are
useful for:
- Early-bird promotions
- Partner or sponsor offers
- Channel-specific marketing campaigns
Creating a New Promo Code
- Navigate to your event in the dashboard
- Go to the Promo Codes page
- Click the "Promo Code" button in the top right
- Fill in the promo code details (explained below)
- Click "Create"
Promo Code Settings
Basic Information
- Name: An internal label for your reference (3–50 characters; letters, numbers, spaces, hyphens, and underscores)
- Code: What attendees enter at checkout. Always uppercase, 4–50 characters, letters, numbers, hyphens, and
underscores only. Use the shuffle button in the field to generate a random code.
- Max Uses: The total number of times the code can be redeemed (1–1000)
- Discount Start and Discount End: The window during which the code is valid. End must be after start, the
window must be at least 1 hour, and at most 1 year.
- Active: Toggle the code on or off without deleting it
Discount Options
- Type: Percentage (1–90%) or a fixed Amount (€1–€500)
- Applicable to: Either the entire Order, or individual Tickets
- Usage per order (only when Applicable to is Tickets):
- Single ticket: the discount applies to one matching ticket per order — the most expensive one
- All tickets: the discount applies to every matching ticket in the order
- Min order amount: Required, €1–€500. For fixed-amount discounts the discount must be lower than this minimum.
Applicable Tickets
Select which ticket types the code can be used with. At least one ticket type must be chosen, even when the discount
applies to the entire order — in that case, the order must contain at least one of the selected ticket types for the
code to be valid.
Promo codes cannot be restricted to ticket groups. Ticket groups are only a visual grouping in the shop and
don't affect promo-code logic. Restrictions always target individual ticket types.
Managing Existing Promo Codes
The Promo Codes page lists all your codes with:
- Name
- Code
- Type (Percentage or Fixed Amount)
- Applicable to (Order or Ticket)
- Max uses and number of times used (separate columns)
- Active status
Use the search bar at the top to filter by name or code. Expand a row to see the full details, edit the code, or delete
it. A promo code can only be deleted if it has not been used yet.
Promo Code Strategies
Limited-Time Offers
Use the start and end dates to create urgency — short flash sales, or early-bird windows that close well before the
event.
Audience Segmentation
Restrict a code to specific ticket types to target a segment (for example, a student-only ticket type, or a VIP tier).
Campaign Attribution
Issue a distinct code per marketing channel (social, newsletter, partner) so the usage count on each code tells you
which channel drove redemptions.
Best Practices
- Keep codes short and easy to spell — they'll be displayed and entered in uppercase
- Set a realistic Max Uses so a code can't be over-redeemed
- Test the code in the shop before sharing it
- Use the start and end dates instead of toggling Active manually when you know the schedule in advance
Next Steps
After setting up your promo codes, consider:
- Customizing your event styling to highlight your promotions
